A godly man was promoted to second in command among his people. The ambition in his heart had left no room for contentment. He thought to himself, surely God will raise me to the highest position. This made it easier for him to bend the law, ever so slightly. After all, as he exclaimed, it was for the greater good that I am lifted up for the sake of my people and the world. Soon it became clear that his plan was just that…his plan. Such is the case with many, many others. Trusting in their abilities, authority, power, and money is a prideful way to live. The bible says, “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!” (Psalm 40:4)
Seeking power, authority, and money for the purpose of helping more people seems noble, yet it is not a godly cause. Do this where you are and God may choose to give you more. Out of the pursuit of God arises the purpose of serving others and this is the accurate approach for mankind. In regards to what is left for your children and others, Love them enough to leave an inheritance, a treasure more valuable than anything-a Love for God.
All our things will cease to exist: bank accounts, jobs, houses, and even relationships as we know them. Today, you have a choice to serve others and not your self-serving ideals. God’s plan is complete. The gospels tell us about a certain rich man who asked Jesus, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” He replied, 19 you know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” 21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” (Mark 10:19-21)
The relationship you have with money tells much about who you serve and who you serve declares who you Love. If you serve God you Love Him. If you Love God you serve Him.
23 And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”
Christmas Day is right around the corner and even though it is a time when billions of dollars in transactions occur, it pales in comparison to the greatest gift of all. Accept Jesus-an eternal reality awaits. You can do this anytime. 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
